Yet when opened up it’s a real surprise package, revealing an amazing spaciousness and many sleeping berth configurations that win over families time and time again. The key design feature in all but one Jayco camper trailer model is that beds extend outside the vehicle’s superstructure.
Simply unclip the roof from the body of the trailer, wind-up and slide out the beds, and there you have it a family friendly RV. Australia’s premier RV manufacturer Jayco started out more than three decades ago, producing just camper trailers. Today, while it now dominates virtually all segments of the RV market in which it operates, it still remains the pre-eminent designer of camper trailers. According to Jayco marketing manager Andrew Ryan the camper trailer’s success has always been based on a design that reflects a family’s need for space and while camper trailers are compact to tow, they open up into roomy RVs, with some models offering as many as seven berths. Until 2007 the exterior design of Jayco camper trailers was based on using aluminium cladding. Then Jayco launched its revolutionary fiberglass wall constructed on an interlocking aluminium frame. The hail and dent resistant fiberglass skin is 150 per cent thicker than standard aluminium. In the last 18 months the Jayco camper trailer has won over another new generation of families to RV holidays and it comes both in standard format for highway travel as well Outback models that can go most places all-wheel or 4WDs can go. Standard and Outback models are built on the high-tech, strong hot-dipped, galvanized-Millennium Chassis. Outbacks have the added strength of ALKO outback leaf springs, shock absorbers with guards and larger main chassis members with an underslung axle for improved ground clearance. The sleek exterior look obtained by the high-gloss, gel-coat finish to the fiberglass walls invites you to open up the camper to discover what’s inside. And inside, it is packed with standard features that are optional extras in other brands. Included are: • SMEV 4 burner gas griller with one 240v element, 12v ignition and flame failure device • Dometic ZRM 2350 three-way fridge • 12v power system with battery charger that supports a 12v lighting system including bed lights; • Euro-styled furniture with powder coated aluminium seat frames • Child safety rail on rear beds Once you get over the high quality finish, your attention if immediately drawn to the sleeping berth configurations. Smaller Finch and Dove models have 5 berths; Flamingo 6 berths and Hawk, Eagle and Swan sleep up to 7. The no bed extension Penguin model can sleep three. With all those sleeping berths, kids are quick to invite friends on holidays too. Campers can also be even bigger, with the option of an annexe, and they are great workhorses too by adding luggage pods, bike racks and even a boat rack to carry a boat for even more holiday fun.
