Not Your Typical Tow Vehicle
When the Rundle’s came to pick up their new Jayco Flamingo, the team in Bendigo were amazed at their tow vehicle. ..A fully refurbished 1955 series 1 Chevrolet pick up. First time caravaners, Chris & Joyce, go to a lot of hot rod shows across the state including Ararat, Echuca, Bright, Horsham, Bendigo, Geelong, Halls Gap, Pakenham & Phillip Island. With the amount of travel and the accommodation costs mounting up the Rundle’s decided that it was time to get a brand new Jayco Flamingo to use for accommodation when they go to shows that are a far distance from home. Now that they have their camper they hope to extend the number of shows they attend by going to Queensland, Adelaide, Sydney and other various Hot Rod shows around the country.
Chris rebuilt the Chevrolet pick up all by himself in his back shed with a few customer modifications. Some of these custom modifications include the fitting of a Ford 351 ci Cleeveland V8 engine, automatic transmission with the rear tailgate is custom made from 2 Honda Civic doors.
The air vents were also custom fitted by Chris to the bonnet which also from a Honda Civic. The front suspension came from a HG Holden and is fitted with HQ Holden disc brakes (much better and safer than the original brakes).
All the timber work on the back is recycled decking from his mate’s back patio and the rusty red colour is a blend of leftover reds from a car yard that he mixed and matched to come up with the finished product.
So next time you’re travelling look out for Chris & Joyce their Chevrolet pick up and Jayco Flamingo and be sure to give them a wave! |
