A Fraser Island Adventure!
In July 2010, Werner and Denise Saul hooked up their 2009 Jayco Outback Dove Camper to the Prado, met another couple and their van in Bairnsdale and headed for Fraser Island.
Werner and Denise and their travelling companions had set themselves a deadline on being in Gympie by the third night – this meant long days driving and roadside setups at night. The Jayco Dove was ideal for them as set up time was minimal and shortly after, they were eating and ready for sleep. Morning pack was just as quick and soon they were on their way again.
On the 4th day, it was time to reduce tyre pressures ready for the beach trip onto the ferry and finally onto Fraser Island. The Saul’s had previously contacted Cathedral Beach camp ground and they advised that the conditions for sand driving, at the lower tide mark, would suit their set up – the Jayco followed the Prado with no issues experienced .
The Saul’s spent 10 days on Fraser Island, using the camp ground as a base and enjoying the activities of sight seeing, fishing, 4wd’ing, swimming, exploring just about the entire island and most importantly, relaxing and socialising with friends. All good things come to an end and soon they were back at the Rainbow Beach carwash, hosing the salt and sand from both vehicle and camper before heading back to Melbourne.
